Labels are tested with:

  • “Tape Test” (to verify the glue strength against the color);

  • “Rolling ball tack test” (to verify adhesiveness strength – it determines the quality of the glue);

  • “Scratch Test” (to test the durability);

Why labels?

Packaging environment – environmental conditions might affect the quality of the label; before printing, we need to take into the consideration the specification for the product – cold storing/production, warm storing/production, wet, greasy, uneven surface. More?

Read more about the technical information:

Flexography (often abbreviated to flexo) is a form of printing process which utilizes a flexible relief plate. It is essentially a modern version of letterpress which can be used for printing on almost any type of substrate, including plastic, metallic films, cellophane, and paper. With the help of imprinting forms, the colour is applied onto the printable material. The printing technology ensures full and bright colors, as well as an option of softer tones. After imprinting, the labels are put in rolls, the printed material is cut to the necessary size and labels are assembled according to the instructions given by the customer.

UV varnishing technology is a surface treatment which either is cured by ultraviolet radiation, or which protects the underlying material from such radiation’s harmful effects; it makes the printed labels shinier, glossy and adds to their mechanical and chemical durability. There are several UV varnish options available – a varnish for thermal sticker printing, for a matte effect, for Braille text.

Digital printing is printing where small-run jobs from desktop publishing and other digital sources are printed using large-format and/or high-volume laser or inkjet printers, as well as for urgent printing orders. This solution does not require the prepress process.

Silk screen printing is an imprinting technology for imprinting various materials. The printing can be done on almost any material. The printable surface can be covered in a thick layer of colour and the elements that are later printed, will stand out with an especially intensive, bright tone and will give a perceptible sense of relief on the label surface.

Relief printing – Embossing is an after-treatment process that gives relief to the surface of the material – commonly used to emphasise specific design elements on the label. The treatment involved in this technique gives labels a kind of exclusiveness and attractiveness.

Laminating ensures that the label has very good resistance against humidity, mechanical damage, dirt and chemical effects.

Die cutting is necessary to create a label in any shape.

Foil hot printing and cold printing are two different technologies for applying metalized, colorful and holographic foils onto the printable material.

  • Hot foil stamping – metallic appearance can be achieved, and the effect stands out with the high resistance and precision. The process accomplished on a foil stamping machine that uses a metal plate that has been engraved with an image of the desired design required for the particular application. The plate strikes a roll of foil film, which causes the foil to adhere to the plate. The result is a document that has a highly reflective image with a bright and dense metallic appearance.

  • Cold foil printing – convenient and fast technology that allows design elements to be added to the label. The process that can be done in-line on a press. Using a standard printing plate, an image is printed onto a substrate with the use of a UV-curable cold foil adhesive. A UV dryer then activates the adhesive. The extracted foil is affixed to the printed adhesive and an image is created. Foil that does not adhere to the adhesive is removed.
